Release: Kennedy Comments on Offshore Revenue Sharing Vote
BATON ROUGE, La. – John Kennedy today applauded the efforts of U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy to pass the “American Energy and Conservation Act.” Cassidy’s bill would have benefited Louisiana by providing for more revenue sharing for states involved in existing or future energy production.
This legislation would have generated hundreds of thousands of new jobs and billions of dollars in additional revenue, a portion of which would go to Louisiana for coastal conservation efforts.
The bill received the support of the majority of the Senate in a 51-47 vote, but fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance the bill.
“Today’s outcome shows why every vote in the Senate is important,” said Kennedy. “I’m focused on growing our economy, bringing back our oil and gas jobs, and restoring our coastline. My opponent has spent 30 years pushing new taxes on our energy sector. I will always put Louisiana’s interests first, and will fight to protect our state.”
